Welcome to NYRR Group Training, with sessions for runners in all five boroughs of New York City.
Geared toward runners of all levels, from newcomers to experienced competitive racers, these workouts offer coaching, camaraderie, and the inspiration that comes from running with others. Whether your goal is to become a runner, to run your first race, or to set a personal best, you’ll find a welcoming atmosphere that encourages you to pursue your goals and have fun.
NYRR Group Training will help you get stronger and faster with your choice of five different types of weekly sessions:
Runners are divided into compatible groups based on their experience, including results in recent New York Road Runners races when applicable. In a mutually supportive and inspiring environment, you’ll meet like-minded runners and new training partners. (No more loneliness of the long-distance runner!)
Every NYRR Group Training workout begins with a warm-up (including running technique work) and ends with a strength-and-flexibility component.
In a fun and supportive environment, this separate section of Group Training welcomes new runners, those returning to the sport, and those who have yet to run a mile in less than 13 minutes to the world of running. Over the course of the eight-week session, runners will be given all of the tools they need to progress to a 30-minute nonstop run. No experience is required, and lots of encouragement will be offered.
TCS New York City Marathon Weekend Long Run Group
Whether you’re signed up for the TCS New York City Marathon or another marathon that falls around that timeframe, we’ve got your planning for your long runs covered! This offering will focus on building long run mileage starting from a long run base of 14 miles and building to 18–20 miles over the course of the eight-week session. Workouts will be held throughout the five boroughs and will be coached to accommodate those who run up to 11 minutes or faster per mile for a 14-mile training run. Please note: Bag check will not be offered for these workouts.
*This program is a continuation of our July session of the TCS New York City Marathon Long Runs. New registrants are encouraged to join, but please note we will be starting from a 14-mile long run base.
Extended Tempo Group
This specific program is geared toward runners who are training for the TCS New York City Marathon or a fall marathon around that time frame. It will be similar in structure to our regular NYRR Tempo Thursday Group Training format but tailored for longer runs featuring marathon-specific workouts. If you’ve got a marathon on your calendar this fall and want to get in more mileage at a tempo pace, then this is the group for you! Please note, for safety reasons, this offering will be coached to accommodate those who can up to 11 minutes per-mile or faster for a training run.
All workouts will last about one hour. See the schedule of start dates and times.
All workouts except Weekend Long Runs include a bag-check area overseen by NYRR staff.
One workout per week:
NYRR members—$80 ($10/workout based on 8-week session)
Non-members—$100 ($12.50/workout based on 8-week session)
Two workouts per week (Tuesday and Thursday):
NYRR members—$150 ($9.38/workout based on 8-week session)
Non-members—$180 ($11.25/workout based on 8-week session)
Class registration fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred or transferred to another runner after the start of the eight-week session. Location and/or time transfers are allowed pending availability. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
